The
artist's paintings are distinguished by a stable
architectonic composition, most often
constructed on the principle of the assemblage.
Familiar architectural elements, signs-symbols,
letter inscriptions are incorporated in them in
diverse correlations and proportions. At the
same time, painterly tissue of the canvas is
many-layered, combining smoothly applied paint
with a more expressive texture, local collor
with subtle gradations of tone, clear, legible
forms with allusions of a sui generis diffusion
of objects in space. All these features of
Nikolay Todorov's works contribute to make up
the physiognomy of an original Bulgarian artist,
one of the few who have accepted the challenge
to interpret the image of the unfamiliar, the
“other".
